Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity

Hebrews 6:1

Maturity is the stage where an organism has reached its full physical development or is capable of reproduction. especially: full development.

It marks the end of the growth period and the beginning of adulthood. 

There is a process of growth, a process of change for every believer. There is a clear distinction between children and adults.

What if fruit trees never grew to the stage where they were able to produce fruit, or if vegetables, wheat, corn, soy and so on never grew to enough to produce anything. We would suffer as a world. God made people to mature to a fully developed state of being, and we suffer for every degree that we fail to reach that stage.

We think that life is to get as much as possible of all the things we want, that is it. Growing to the full stage of maturity does not matter to us.
